Artist Statement
Inspiration for my artwork comes from the natural world and is shaped by my travels across all seven continents and all fifty states. Each piece reflects my deep fascination with the interplay of shapes, colors, and textures that embody the unique atmospheric qualities of each region. Through my work, I seek to capture the essence of these diverse landscapes, inviting viewers to explore the beauty of our natural world.
Navigating the realms of both painting, printmaking, and photography, I employ a diverse array of materials and techniques in my artistic practice, especially encaustic (beeswax, pigments, natural resin). With each piece, I embark on a journey of experimentation and curiosity. While I often initiate a work with a clear intention, there always seems to be a dynamic interplay between intent and chance that frequently leads me down uncharted artistic paths. The end result is always a revelation, as I am never quite certain how a painting or print will take shape until it is brought to fruition.
In an ever-accelerating world, I aim to offer respite through my art—inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Through my work, I hope to instill a sense of calmness and awe in those who engage with it, fostering a deeper appreciation for the boundless harmonies that nature presents to us.
