Biography

Lori Niland Rounds is an award-winning artist whose practice spans painting, printmaking, and photography. She recently received third place out of 500 entries in the 2025 Delaplaine National Juried Show and was selected as one of 400 artists from 4,000 applicants for the landmark exhibition Women Artists of the DMV. Her work was also chosen for the year-long Smithsonian Artist-at-Work exhibition in Washington, DC, and one of her encaustic pieces was recently acquired for the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Additional highlights include an Individual Artist Award from the National Endowment for the Arts/Frederick Arts Council, professional development grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, and features in MoMA’s 2018 Digital Online Learners Show and the CBS Sunday Morning Show. Several of her works are on view at the new Marriott Visitation Hotel in downtown Frederick, and her art is held in private collections across the United States.

Rounds is currently an Artist-in-Residence at Artspiration Frederick in historic Frederick, Maryland, and maintains active memberships in several professional art organizations. She also volunteers remotely with the Smithsonian Associates, supporting online studio art and art history courses. A lifelong artist, she returned to full-time studio work in 2019 following a successful career in information technology.
